Young Dons take on Blackpool in bid for national cup glory

Supporters are invited to watch our next generation on Saturday as they bid to become national cup winners!

Our Under-17s take on Blackpool in the EFL Floodlit Cup Final at the Cherry Red Records Stadium (5.30 pm kick-off).

The young Dons topped a group that included Gillingham, Leyton Orient and Sutton to reach the knockout stages, before defeating Plymouth on their own patch in the quarter-final, thanks to goals by Ed Leach, Kai McKenzie, and Justin Clarke.

A 4-1 victory followed versus Cheltenham Town in the semi-final to set-up a shot at more glory after the young Dons were crowned league winners in the EFL Schoolboys Under 16/17 South East Division.

Speaking ahead of the big game on Saturday, Academy Manager Michael Hamilton, said: "The opportunity to play a cup final at home doesn't come along too often and this match provides us with a great platform to showcase our talent, create lifelong memories, and bring some silverware home.

"If you ask any young player what they want to be when they are older, it is to become a professional footballer, but they also want to win trophies and play at stadiums along the way. A win or a loss won't determine the pathway of these young talents, but if Saturday doesn't get them excited and they leave the pitch at full-time thinking they could of done more, they'll need to ask themselves some serious questions.

"Saturday doesn't represent pressure, it represents a privilege and an opportunity. We would love it if you could come and show your support."

Entry is FREE to attend Saturday's game, so come along and cheer on the Dons to glory.
