Two Decades Together: Goals Galore

Final instalment of popular interview series

23 April 2024

At Wimbledon we’ve been truly blessed to have had a wide array of legendary strikers who have provided us with that all-important firepower up front.

From Ian Cooke to Alan Cork and Jon Main to Danny Kedwell, there’s been far too many names to mention over the years.

In-keeping with our Two Decades Together series, we’ve slowly progressed through the AFC Wimbledon timeline, bringing you interviews with some of your favourite heroes and figures – and now it’s the turn of two men who found the back of the net more often than not during their spells with us.

Lyle Taylor and Joe Pigott are two very different strikers, but they both have one thing in common – an adoration from the Wimbledon faithful which still lasts to this day.

From Lyle’s Wembley wizardry to Joe’s history making goals at Plough Lane, both players stepped up when it mattered for us and even featured in the same team, for albeit a short period (what a front two they could’ve become).

With over 100 goals combined, the two frontmen are the ideal pair to round off our mini series as part of a celebration of 21 years in partnership with Sports Interactive.

“It’s a massive part of my life and career,” said Lyle. “The shirts on display here bring back nothing but good memories. There’s a lot of good times that I had in the 2015/16 shirt!”

“I was thinking about things on the drive to the stadium – there’s been so many great memories on and off the pitch for me,” added Joe. “My family loved it here. It’s amazing to be part of history. Scoring those first goals at Plough Lane is one of the biggest accolades of my career.”
