7,731 miles: Your magnificent support

A look back at our away days

22 April 2024

From Barrow to Bradford and Sutton to Stockport, the travelling Womble Army has followed the Dons all over the country during 2023/24.

It seems a long while ago but our catalogue of away trips began at Blundell Park as we visited Grimsby Town on the opening day of the league season – a real sense of déjà vu given we ended the previous campaign at the very same venue.

From there we went on to more local jaunts such as Colchester and Sutton before another more glamorous visit to the plush surroundings of Stamford Bridge to take on Premier League Chelsea in the Carabao Cup.

September saw us trek to South Wales to take on Newport County, before the month was wrapped up at Walsall with a 3-1 win.

There was some happiness at Harrogate in early October as a bolt from Bugiel saw us take three points in the picturesque corner of Yorkshire. Then came a Saturday with the Stags of Mansfield, a battle with the Bluebirds of Barrow and a match-up with Morecambe.

Two relatively close venues awaited our side in November, as we journeyed to Wycombe Wanderers in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy and Gillingham in Sky Bet League Two.

We took in a triple bill of away fixtures at the back end of December, starting at Salford City, then heading to Portsmouth and ending with a priceless victory at Crawley Town.

Forest Green Rovers was the location for our first game of 2024, then came trips to Wrexham and a town in Buckinghamshire before Peterborough United ended our run in the Trophy.

February took us north to Bradford City, Accrington Stanley and Doncaster Rovers as the milometer continued to increase week on week.

We marched into March, picking up four points at both Notts County and Crewe Alexandra as we kept our play-off hopes alive.

Then we return to the familiar surroundings of April as Stockport, Swindon and Tranmere rounded off a mammoth campaign on the road which took us to a massive 7,731 miles travelled across the country.

And with that all we can say is THANK YOU. Thank you to those of you who travelled on weekends to far flung corners. Thank you to those of you who braved the Tuesday nights up north. Your support is unrivalled and is what makes our club so special. Thank you for backing our players and coaching staff until the end. We Are Wimbledon. COYD!
