Preview: Dons take on promotion-chasers Bradford
Paul Robinson says that it’s a big challenge for AFC Wimbledon to match clubs with greater resources in League One and he is looking forward to testing himself against promotion contenders Bradford City tomorrow.
The Dons will tomorrow be aiming to do what no other clubs in League One have done so far this season – win at Bradford.
But taking on promotion hopefuls on their own patch is not something that holds any fears for ‘Robbo’. Since joining Wimbledon in the summer of 2015, the experienced defender has played a big part in the club’s rise and he’s relishing a third season after signing a new contract.
“It will be a tough game, but the lads are looking forward to it,” said Robinson. “They have not lost at home all season, but we have nothing to lose. We are going to go up there and try to be the only team to beat them at home this season. We can play with freedom, go up to Bradford and acquit ourselves well, and see what we can get out of the game.
“I cannot believe I will be going into my third season here, we’ve fitted a lot in during the last couple of seasons. It has been fantastic; moving from Portsmouth to help this football club get promoted and continue its journey has been great. I’ve loved every minute of my time here.
“The club has really progressed. We’ve made that step-up and the infrastructure of the club around it has also had to move on. It is great to see the ground situation progressing. We work really hard off the pitch as a club to maximise every advantage that we can get, especially as we’ve not got the budgets of other clubs in this division. It is important that we find any advantage that we can to make us as competitive as possible on the pitch.”

Robinson expressed his frustration with a lack of goals in recent matches, particularly missing a great chance himself against Peterborough.
“It is just about those small differences,” added Robbo. “In the last 25 minutes against Swindon we felt that the game would open up because they had to go for it, but we did not quite have the quality in the final third to pick them off. Jake Reeves had a golden chance in that one, but it was the same for me on Monday. It was disappointing really because it would have been a really good three points for us. I was disappointed that I did not hit the target, but it was one of those things. We will keep working hard on the training pitch and try to get used to scoring goals again.”
