Double loan swoop completed

AFC Wimbledon are delighted to announce that we have today completed the loan signings of defenders George Francomb and Dale Bennett.

The pair, signed from Norwich City and Watford respectively, will both go straight into the squad for tomorrow’s match against Dagenham & Redbridge after joining on one-month loan deals.

Wimbledon’s club board had given the green light for two short-term loan signings before the transfer deadline with the continuing uncertainty over when Curtis Osano will return to fitness and Mat Mitchel-King having been granted compassionate leave.

In a video interview for Dons Player, manager Terry Brown, said: “I must say a big thank-you to the board. With the news that Mat Mitchel-King is not available and Curtis having broken down in training, we were desperate to get a couple of quality players in. We have not got unlimited funds and I am delighted with the quality of the boys we have managed to get in at this late stage before the deadline.”

Right-back Farncomb is highly-rated at Norwich and was man of the match in Tuesday night’s 2-1 Capital One Cup win against Scunthorpe United, but manager Chris Hughton wants him to gain more first-team experience. The 20-year-old had a successful loan spell in the Scottish Premier League with Hibernian last season and helped the Edinburgh club into the Scottish Cup Final.

Centre-back Dale Bennett, aged 22, has made 26 first-team appearances for Watford and was last season on loan at Brentford, where he trained alongside Pim Balkestein.
